Be honest about the load.

This is where most caravanners discover they're heavier than they thought. Water alone adds 200kg+ on a full van.

How accurate is this? The calculator uses your input numbers and a 10% ball-weight estimate where not provided. Real-world weights typically vary 50–100kg from paper because tare values get outdated and accessories add up. For legal and insurance purposes — and your own peace of mind — we strongly recommend a calibrated weighing before any major trip. This tool is for educational guidance only.

Questions caravanners ask.

It's accurate to your inputs. The numbers from your compliance plate are factory specs — real-world weights typically vary 50–100kg from estimates because tares get outdated, accessories add up, and water/gas/load estimates are rarely exact. Use the calculator to flag potential issues. Use a calibrated weighing to confirm.
ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) is the max weight of your loaded caravan, including the ball weight pressing on the tow vehicle. GTM (Gross Trailer Mass) is just the weight on the van's wheels when coupled. GCM (Gross Combination Mass) is the max combined weight of vehicle + caravan together.
Too much ball weight makes the back of your tow vehicle sag, lifts the front, ruins steering and braking. Too little makes the caravan unstable and prone to sway. Most vans run best at 9–11% of total loaded weight on the ball. Vehicles have a max ball rating — exceeding it is a real safety and insurance risk.
We come to your van with calibrated wheel scales. Takes about 30 minutes. We measure each wheel of the caravan and tow vehicle individually, give you the real numbers for ATM, GVM, GCM, ball weight, and per-axle loads — plus a compliance report you can keep for insurance and warranty.
